Computing giant Sun Microsystems is to work alongside business software company SAP AG to deliver an integrated RFID platform aimed at simplifying deployment and reducing the risk for customers.

The companies will work together to integrate RFID technology based on the SAP Auto-ID Infrastructure component of SAP NetWeaver and the Sun Java System RFID Software. Sun says this collaboration will enable RFID data network
communication between Sun and SAP RFID technology allowing for seamless data flow from any RFID-enabled device to the mySAP Business Suite.

Julie Sarbacker, of Sun Microsystems, said, "Sun continues to build on our leadership in the RFID market to provide customers with standards-based solutions designed to manage RFID data in a variety of business environments, from pharmaceuticals to manufacturing to retail."
"Our collaboration with SAP is another step in the right direction on behalf of our joint customers and will provide additional functionality to help overcome the increasingly advanced technical hurdles facing our customers as they implement the RFID deployments of tomorrow."
