A newly developed label from KSW Microtec will enable food firms to more closely monitor the temperature of their products on the journey from production line to consumer, its inventor says.
The credit card-sized KSW-VarioSens Basic Label, working in the ISM-Band at 13.56 MHz, permits the easy and effective monitoring of temperature sensitive goods, claimed maker KSW Microtec.
It said the low-cost temperature-monitoring label, being a genuine alternative to usual temperature loggers, offered the user enormous cost advantages compared similar products using RFID technology.
The launch should also help food producers to cut down on batches lost due to spoilage in transport, particularly with regard to foods more sensitive to temperature.
KSW belongs to the global leading manufacturers of Smart Inlays and Smart Active Labels, and the firm has built its reputation on developing state-of-the-art microelectronic technology.
The group said it would provide its KSW-VarioSens Command Set to all software integrators free of charge to simplify the development of software applications.
Samples of the KSW-VarioSens Basic label are available now and series production will be started in the second quarter of 2006 at the high-tech site in Dresden, Germany. Kits explaining how the label works are also available.
